Before moving on to the steps of wearing a saree, here are some components that you need to possess. You must wear a petticoat tightly with lace attached to it near your waist line and blouse with front or back buttons. Your blouse must be in proper fitting to add get up of your saree. So the steps to follow are as mentioned below:

  1. Holding & Tucking Saree: As soon as you are done with wearing a petticoat and a blouse, you should start learning to hold a saree. Stand in front of a mirror; hold the upper end of the saree keeping the front facing of the saree towards mirror. The other step is to insert the saree for a complete round starting from the right side to the left side. Leave the other corner of the saree on the ground itself.

  2. Prepare Pleats: Depending upon your height and broadness of saree, prepare the pleats of equal size of approximately 5 inches. You should start pleating from the end where you last tucked your saree.

  3. Way of Tucking: Prepare around 8 to 10 pleats and face them to the left. Now, tuck it exactly down under your petticoat seeing that the length of the saree remains long. Note that the pleats must fall evenly in an elegant manner.

  4. Pallu Fixing: Take right to left turn again and tuck the plain side of the saree to your petticoat and set the pallu to your shoulder. You have two ways to keep it. One is to let it be loose on your shoulder covering the whole hand thereby showcasing the style of pallu while the other is taking pleats of pallu too and fixing it with a safety pin.
